Detect Early – Prevent Early

Eye disease is an unfortunate but common issue. It’s estimated that almost 6 million people across the country are suffering from eye diseases that could cause vision loss or blindness. That’s over 15% of the population.

Most instances of eye disease do not present symptoms until vision loss has already begun. This means that it is nearly impossible to detect and manage eye disease – and prevent concurrent vision loss or blindness – without the aid of an eye examination.

Diagnose, Prevent, & Manage

At MEye Health, we take satisfaction in our ability to provide our patients with exceptional care. Our team remains on top of all the latest research and technology that aids in examining and treating eye diseases.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a disease which causes the progressive deterioration of the macula, the part of your eye responsible for central and colour vision. AMD is the number one cause of vision loss in people over 50 in North America. It can affect your ability to recognize faces, drive, and read.

MEye Health is proud to offer genetic testing for AMD. The test determines which vitamin therapy is best for you and your probability of developing advanced AMD. Genetic testing is recommended for individuals suffering with macular degeneration and their families.  We prescribe the recommended vitamins and use the Macular Pigment Optical Density device to measure the effectiveness of vitamin therapy. Low MPOD is a significant but modifiable risk factor for AMD. Once identified it can be monitored and corrected over time, enabling a proactive, preventative approach to AMD.

Glaucoma is usually slow, progressive deterioration of the optic nerve causing a gradual and irreversible peripheral vision loss which, if left untreated, can lead to blindness. Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness across the globe.

There are many different risk factors for glaucoma, and a variety of treatments available. The most vital aspect of managing glaucoma is early diagnosis and treatment.  At MEye Health, we have the equipment necessary to identify and control this disease in its initial stages.

Diabetic eye disease includes not only diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema, but other common eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, dry eye, and fluctuating vision. Visit the Diabetic Eye Exam page to learn more!

Conjunctivitis is caused by the inflammation of the conjunctiva – the mucous membrane that covers the white of the eye. Conjunctivitis can be caused by many different things, ranging from allergies, bacteria or viruses.

In some cases the pink eye may not be a conjunctivitis at all. As such, it is important to have the underlying cause diagnosed so that proper treatment can be initiated.

Cataracts are the number one cause of reversible vision loss in people over 40. Cataracts are the clouding of the natural lens of the eye. This causes blurry vision, dulling of colour, and glare. Certain nutrients may be beneficial in cataract prevention. When the cataract becomes visually disturbing, there is a safe and effective surgery can remove cataracts and restore vision.

Dry eye syndrome (or dry eye disease) is characterized by the inability of the tears to adequately provide moisture and protection to the eyes. It is usually caused by an underlying issue such as meibomian gland dysfunction.

Individuals suffering from dry eye syndrome may be at risk of developing further corneal complications if the issue is left untreated. However, there are many different forms of relief available for this disease.
