Children Are The Future, Protect Their Vision!

The eye health of our children is incredibly important. As children develop, they rely on their vision to interpret and understand so much of the world around them. In fact, 80% of what we learn is through the eyes!

6 out of 10 children who have problems reading have uncorrected vision problems? Often, the problem hasn’t been detected as the child may have never had a comprehensive eye exam with an optometrist.

At MEye Health, we value the bigger picture. Children are the future, and should always be set up for success. Our comprehensive eye exams ensure the best proactive care possible for your child.

Urgent Care

If you notice an eye turn, double vision, excessive rubbing, blinking, squinting, red eye or any other unusual symptoms, call us immediately.

When to Test

Here is a basic schedule of when to have your children’s eyes examined, unless otherwise recommended by their dedicated medical professional.

  1. Children should undergo their first comprehensive eye exam at the age of 6 months.
  2. Children should have their eyes examined around age 3, or prior to beginning preschool.
  3. At age 5 or 6, children should begin having a regular eye exam at least once a year.

MEye Health offers a safe, welcoming, and friendly environment for your children. We have new technology that allows us to safely and effectively detect vision issues in infants and older children from 3 feet away.

MEye Health uses our exceptional knowledge, experience, and technology to ensure that your child is provided the best care possible. One such method is the Spot Screener: a handheld device which non-invasively detects vision issues in infants and young children from 3 feet away.

    1. List of medications, supplements, eye drops currently in use.
    2. Current glasses/contact lenses in use.
    3. Sunglasses. (If you are over the age of 20 and/or at risk of eye disease, your eyes will be dilated.) Dilating drops expand your pupils, temporarily impairing your near vision and making your eyes light-sensitive. The effects last 2-6 hours in adults and 12 hours in children.
    4. Health/OHIP card.
    5. Private medical insurance card.

If you would like us to bill your insurance, please email us 24 hours in advance so that we may predetermine the coverage.

Those with diabetes may want to bring in their most recent A1c readings, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.

A functional vision assessment (FVA) measures how a child uses their visual system for reading, writing, and comprehension. A child could have 20/20 vision, but how their brain processes what they see is another story.
